At some point in their lives almost every child goes through a phase where they are petrified of the dark. In some cases, watching a scary movie, afraid to read a book or hear a story of fear could lead to this behavior. Sometimes you can even find a news story might be enough to scare your child. You and your child may have no idea what exactly caused the sudden fear. However, when a child is afraid of the dark, can be a lot of discomfort for both his son and other family members. If your child is afraid of the dark, here are some tips you can use to help overcome their fears.
Determining the cause
A good thing to do if your child suddenly becomes afraid of the dark is always talking about it with them. Just fill a spray bottle with water and add a little scent, a little mint, vanilla or maybe air freshener. You can then spray the area with repellant before going to bed, giving your child a bottle if you want to use more at night. It can also lower the child's anxiety about monsters by reading stories like friendly monster characters. Encourage your child to color pictures or draw pictures with friendly monsters. It might help to show artwork in a friendly monster frame on the wall as a deterrent to other less friendly monsters. Giving your child a small flashlight may help.
Adding a nice touch
Redecorating the room of his small can often be a good way to ease the concern of a child with the dark. Getting your child active in the process, allowing them to choose colorful accessories, curtains, and artwork that really look like. You can create an aura of confidence within the nursery by placing some nice artwork and picture frames in cheerful red and displayed on the wall. Doors and cabinets often cause fear in children. While many children become afraid when the doors are open, others do not like it when closed. Talk with your child to find out what your preference. A great way for the doors to be less threatening to hang artwork on them.
